My Thoughts On Painting
-  You should practice your drawing skills. It is the beginning of every painting. Pick up your pencil and draw whenever possible. Keep a sketch pad in the glove compartment, and take time when you are out to draw something. People coming out of the market, in the park, or on television. Sketch the members of your family.

If it is difficult for you to draw buildings, and perspective gives you trouble, draw other subjects. Draw and paint what you really want and are interested in.

Do not depend on friends and relatives to critique your work. They will be glad to tell you that it is wonderful, even if it is not. Go to a professional artist for criticism. Ultimately you must be your own judge.

Try not to be so impressed by other artists paintings, that you imitate. Express yourself. The worst art you can create, is still better than copying another artist. You will learn to develop your own style simply by painting and painting more, and doing what you enjoy.

Develop your confidence. It is important for your success and shows in your paintings and drawings. Confidence comes from experience and practice.

Biography

Artist Anita Wolff, born in California, is well known throughout the United States for her paintings and classes. She has numerous contributions to books and publications. Her original oil and pastel paintings are created by her use of bold strokes and a colorful palette. She stresses a personal approach to each painting subject.

Anita's paintings are in many collections in the United States and throughout the world. Anita received an invitation from the Norton Simon Foundation in California to display fifty of her paintings. A painting was purchased for the permanent collection.

"My interest in Art started by drawing as a child. Also, living in Southern California, with the beauty of my surroundings, a talented family and the fortune of studying with several Master Painters.

In Her Own Words

"My interest in Art started early. My family was talented, in different interest other than painting. I started drawing when young.

My first experience in real plein air painting happened in Palo Verdes, with a group of watercolorists. I didn't do very well with that medium, but fell for oil painting and pastel.

With several friends, we decided to paint throughout Southern California. This later became serious painting from Palm Springs and Capistrano to New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Mexico, New England, France, Scotland, Italy, Moorea and Tahiti.
